Children

Children’s eyes can be checked at any age and our Optometrists will do all they can to make the experience a lot of fun.

We recommend that a child has a full eye examination before they start school and starts learning to read. The earlier any problems with a child’s visual development are detected, the more chance there is of successful treatment.

EYE EXAMINATION
During the first 12 years of our lives, up to 80% of our learning is visually based. Many children struggle at school simply because of eyesight related problems, which is why your child should have regular eye tests by a qualified optician.
CHILDREN’S CONTACT LENSES

With recent technological advances in lenses, as soon as vision correction is identified, contact lenses can be used to correct eyesight problems. Our friendly, qualified opticians will be able to monitor how well the child is looking after their lenses to ensure that their eyes remain healthy.

CHILDREN’S SPECTACLES

Your children only have one pair of eyes, so it is important to protect them from the earliest point possible with regular eye tests and correct eye wear. At Specs of Kensington, we have an extensive range of children‘s glasses that have been specifically designed for a child‘s smaller head and facial features.

SUN PROTECTION

Children‘s eyes are delicate, their sight is still developing and so need greater care and protection from UV light than adults. Your children only have one pair of eyes, so it is important to protect them from the earliest point possible with regular eye tests and correct eye wear.

VISION AND LEARNING
The assessment is designed to detect any visual factors which may be contributing to a child‘s difficulties. These may or may not be related to any diagnosed Specific Learning disability.
MYOPIA CONTROL

Myopia is also known as short-sightedness. Near objects are clear but objects in the distance are blurry. This is usually because the eye becomes too long to focus correctly. There is currently no cure for short-sightedness. The aim of myopia control is to slow or halt the progression of myopia.
